Our Counseling Department partners with students, parents, and faculty to address the academic and social-emotional needs of William C. Overfelt High School students. Counselors support students, parents, and teachers in promoting academic success and achieving long-term educational and career goals. We offer expert and professional guidance in the following areas:
- Individual student academic planning and goal-setting
- Plan for postsecondary options (higher education, military, workforce)
- College, Major, and Career exploration using the California Colleges platform
- Financial aid and scholarship application support
- School counseling classroom lessons based on student success standards
- Short-term counseling to students
- Referrals for long-term support (Wellness Center and community partners)
- Collaboration with families/teachers/ administrators/community for student success
- Advocacy for students at individual education plan meetings and other student-focused meetings
- Data analysis to identify student issues, needs, and challenges
- Acting as a systems change agent to improve equity and access, achievement, and opportunities for all students
- Apply academic achievement strategies
